How Cornerstone Pest Control uses cookies and similar technologies on our website.
This website is deliberately light on cookies. We use no advertising cookies and no third-party marketing trackers. There are two things we ask your permission for, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, and neither of them runs unless you agree to analytics. They answer the same question about how the site is used, so they share one choice.
Our website runs on Cloudflare, which may set strictly necessary cookies (such as bot protection cookies) to keep the site secure and working. Our contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which may use similar strictly necessary techniques to tell humans from bots. These do not require consent because the site cannot function securely without them.
If you use the Display options panel to change how this site looks, your choices are saved on your device under the name begin-a11y-v1. It records only the settings you picked, such as text size, spacing, typeface, contrast, transparency, focus outline, underlined links, reduced motion and larger tap targets.
This is stored in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, and it is never sent to us or to anyone else. We cannot see what you have set. It does not need your consent because it exists only to carry out something you asked for, and asking permission each time would mean a preference that forgets itself on every page. We still list it here because everything this site stores on your device is listed here.
Pressing Reset all in the panel deletes the record completely. Clearing your browser storage does the same.
We use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how the site is used: which pages people read, how they arrived, and where they give up. It is aggregated, it is never sold, and it is never used to advertise to you. We run no advertising or marketing trackers of any kind on this site.
Analytics cookies are only set if you turn them on. They are off by default. Nothing analytics related is stored until you choose, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the Cookie preferences link.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor apart from another so repeat visits are not counted as new people. | 2 years |
| _ga_FG1RPK0G7X | Google Analytics | Keeps track of your current visit for this site's Analytics property. | 2 years |
Your choice itself is remembered in your browser's local storage under cornerstone-consent-v1. That is strictly necessary: without it we would have to ask you on every single page.
We use Microsoft Clarity to record how visitors move, click and scroll through a page, and to build heatmaps showing where people stop reading. We use it to find pages that confuse people, so we can fix them.
This is part of the Analytics choice, not a separate one. Clarity answers the same question Google Analytics does, which is how the site is actually being used, so it sits behind the same toggle. Agreeing to Analytics agrees to both, and refusing it refuses both. It is described here in full so that agreeing to one control is still an informed thing to do.
Text is masked before it leaves your browser. This site uses Clarity's strictest masking setting, so the words on the page, and anything you type into the contact form, are replaced with blocks and never reach Microsoft. What is recorded is the layout of the page and how the pointer, keyboard and scroll moved over it.
Nothing loads from Microsoft until you agree to Analytics. The Clarity script is not placed on the page at all unless you have agreed to it, so while Analytics is switched off your browser never contacts Microsoft because of us. If you switch it off again, we tell Clarity to delete its cookies and the recording stops. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the Cookie preferences link.
Microsoft acts as our processor for this, and your data may be transferred outside the UK. We always refuse advertising storage on your behalf. Whatever else you have chosen, we tell Clarity that you have not agreed to advertising storage, because this site runs no advertising. That is what keeps this a measurement tool, and it is the reason it belongs behind the Analytics choice rather than one of its own. Microsoft publishes the list of cookies Clarity can set once you have agreed:
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| _clck | Microsoft Clarity | Keeps the Clarity user ID for this site, so repeat visits are recognised as the same browser. | This website |
| _clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Joins several page views together into a single recording of one visit. | This website |
| CLID | Microsoft Clarity | Records the first time Clarity saw this browser on any site that uses Clarity. | Microsoft domain |
| MUID | Microsoft | Identifies the browser across Microsoft sites. Microsoft uses it for advertising, site analytics and operational purposes. | Microsoft domain |
| ANONCHK | Microsoft | Records whether MUID is used for advertising. Clarity does not use it that way, so this is always set to 0. | Microsoft domain |
| MR | Microsoft | Records whether the MUID identifier should be refreshed. | Microsoft domain |
| SM | Microsoft | Keeps the MUID identifier in step across Microsoft's domains. | Microsoft domain |
How long each of these lasts is set by Microsoft rather than by us, and Microsoft keeps the current list in its own Clarity documentation. None of them is set while Analytics is switched off.
